Tile Calculator

Tiles and boxes for any floor, waste included.

Enter your floor's length and width and pick your tile size to see how many tiles the job needs. The calculator adds a 10% waste allowance for cuts and breakage, and converts the total into boxes of 10 tiles. Bigger tiles mean fewer pieces but more waste on awkward layouts.

How it's calculated

Tiles = ceil(floor area ÷ tile area × 1.1) for a 10% waste allowance. Boxes = ceil(tiles ÷ 10), assuming 10 tiles per box.

Frequently asked questions

Why add 10% waste?

Yes — 10% is the industry standard for straight layouts. Diagonal patterns or rooms with many corners and doorways may need 15% instead.

How do you calculate tiles manually?

Divide the floor area by one tile's area, then add your waste allowance. A 12 m² floor with 30 cm tiles needs 133.33 tiles, plus 10% = 147 tiles.

How many tiles come in a box?

Most stores pack 8–12 tiles per box depending on tile size. This calculator uses 10 per box as a common standard — check your supplier's box quantity before ordering.
