Ideal Weight Calculator
A healthy target weight for your height.
The Devine formula gives a single evidence-based ideal weight for your height and sex, originally developed for medicine dosing. We show it with a ±10% healthy range, because healthy bodies come in a range, not a single number. Treat it as a guidepost, not a grade.
How it's calculated
Devine formula: men 50 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60); women 45.5 + 2.3 × (height in inches − 60). Range shown is ±10% of ideal.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Devine formula?
A formula from 1974, originally created to dose medicines by body size. It's one of the most cited ideal-weight equations and the basis for many medical 'ideal body weight' charts.
Why a range instead of one number?
Because frame size, muscle mass and age all shift what's healthy for a given height. The ±10% range captures most healthy variation; the exact middle isn't a magic number.
I'm outside the range — should I worry?
Not necessarily. Muscular people often exceed it; small-framed people may sit below it. If you're well outside the range and unsure, a clinician or dietitian can assess your individual picture.
